The weather here has been humid and oppressive--so, in other words, perfect for sitting in the air conditioning and writing a murder mystery
Kindle Daily Deal: Woohoo!

Death in the Details is a Kindle Daily Deal! You can buy it for only $1.99. Grab it here.
Thanks, Libraries!
I’m grateful to public libraries for many things, and one of them is…drum roll, please… air conditioning. Also, my library has these cool (yep, that was an intentional adjective) rooms you can book (oh, I’m too much with the puns today!) so you have a little private space to yourself.
The walls are glass and don’t go all the way to the ceiling, which is perfect; I really enjoy hearing the low hubbub of pleasant library sounds around me as I write.
Thanks in part to this little room, Maple Bishop book two (working title: Death in the Ashes) is coming along nicely. If you missed the last newsletter where I announced it, feel free to go back and read more about it here:
Speaking of Death in the Ashes… Here’s a little tidbit!
The inspiration for my fictional character, Maple Bishop, is the real-life mother of forensic science, Frances Glessner Lee. Lee created miniature replicas of death scenes in order to help train investigators.
My first book, Death in the Details, centers around a nutshell called “Barn.” In the next book, I drew inspiration from “Burned Cabin,” which depicts—you guessed it—a burned cabin. In the opening chapters, Maple, Kenny, and the sheriff are called to the scene of a deadly fire.
The victim is one of Kenny’s closest friends from childhood, and the trio must figure out what happened: was it arson? Murder? A tragic accident?
Fun fact: Maple will actually build more than one nutshell (!) during the course of this book.
Upcoming Event
WHERE: Warehouse Point Library (East Windsor, CT)
WHEN: August 21 @ 6:30 PM
I’d love to see you there!
Recent Read
I was feeling the need for a palate cleanser between murder mysteries, so I decided to read my first Emily Henry. Thanks to my friend Delia for recommending it. I’m picky about rom-coms, and I enjoyed this one: enemies to lovers, city vs. small town, and witty dialogue. A nice touch was the really sweet relationship between the main character and her sister.
Thanks for reading!
